Call for Papers
General guidelines
The Conference will include:
- Plenary Sessions, where invited presenters will speak on the Conference theme “Tides, waves and currents in research and action” with respect to the key areas of
- Early Intervention
- Childhood
- Adulthood
- Older People
- Workhops, where contributors will have the opportunity to present their submission on topics that relate and connect well with the main conference theme of “Tides, Waves and currents in reasearch and action”.
Workshop Focus Topics:- Communication and Language
- Recreation and Leisure
- Technology
- Staff Development / Management
- Syndromes
- Siblings / Families
- Changing Population / Changing Needs
- Genetics / Medical Issues
- Assessments / Diagnosis
- Transition
- Vocational Training / Employment
- Relationships and Friendships
Each presentation/workshop will be 60 minutes (45 minutes of presentation and 15 minutes of discussion). The Scientifc Committee will consider most favourably papers addressing the need for research and new ways of looking at, or challenging what we are doing now – and setting the trend for the next few years
- and, finally, a Networking morning will be offered in the morning of Friday 25th September 2009 to allow for extended study of specific areas. The Scientific Committee anticipates Network activities in each of the following categories:
- Acquired Deafblindness
- CHARGE
- Communication
- Congenital Deafblindness in Adults
- Employment
- Interpreters Development
- Rubella
- Siblings
- Tactile Communication Working Group
- Usher Syndrome Study Group (USSG)
- E.Db.N.
Abstract submission
Submit your paper (maximum 300 words) using the abstract form in Word for Windows which can be downloaded from this web site and send it as an e-mail attachment to meet@meetandwork.com by January 31, 2009 (new extended deadline)
Abstracts must be in English. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to assess the abstracts and decide whether they will be accepted for presentation in workshop sessions. Presenters are required to register for the Conference by April 15, 2009.
Please note that abstracts sent by fax or regular mail as hardcopies will not be considered.
On receipt of the abstract a confirmation will be sent to the e-mail address of the corresponding author indicated on the form.

Editorial guidelines for the abstract submission
- Write your abstract in English
- Use MS Word for Windows, 14 pt Arial
- The text should be single spaced and justified and should not exceed 300 words
- The title of the abstract should not exceed 25 words
- The following information about the Lead Presenter and any Co-Presenters must be included:
- name(s) and title(s)
- name of workplace if relevant (affiliation of all authors)
- position
- full address including city/town, province/state, country, postcode/zipcode
- home and work telephone numbers
- fax number
- e-mail address
Reference numbering should indicate which authors belong to each Institute/Hospital or Department mentioned on the field “Affiiliation of all Authors”
- Indicate where you think your presentation best fits among the Key conference areas and the Workshop focus topics listed above
- The abstract should be structured as follows:
- Brief statement of the content (one line)
- Description of the presentation
- Summary of the main purpose of the presentation
- 2 or 3 questions that will be offered for discussion in the presentation
- The use of tables or figures is not allowed
- Indicate which one of the following audio visual equipment you will require:
- Power Point data projector and laptop OR
- DVD player and monitor OR
- Video player and monitor OR
- Overhead projector OR
- No audio visual equipment required
